They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”
This isn’t written by some guru describing the much-maligned millennial generation. No, this one is by Socrates, written about 450 years before Christ.
And yet somehow the human race has survived. I think we need some perspective on our younger employees. Much like my generation, the current crop of young people contains a mixture of superstars, good people and a few idiots thrown in for good measure.
And I have to say that, in general, I like them better than their ultra-ambitious baby boomer parents! They’re more socially conscious, more family oriented, and less focused on money as the means to all happiness.
If you’re not a millenial (30-ish years old) make friends with one. If you are a millenial, find a mentor that’s older than you to teach you the ropes. The old folks are flattered when someone young wants to spend any time with them.
