Your Most Important Decisions

As a leader, your most important decisions are ‘who’ decisions, not ‘what’ decisions.

Greg Brennerman is the CEO that orchestrated turn-arounds at Burger King and Continental Airlines.  He says that a full 40% of his time is spent on talent management – recruiting and retaining the right people, reviewing current talent and juggling seats so that everyone is performing at their best.

So if you have more than 8 people in your company, you aren’t in the ____________ (insert your industry category here) business, you’re in the people business.   Here’s what you should ask yourself:

  • Do I have outstanding (not fine) people?
  • Are they all in their perfect seat?
  • Are they all focused on doing the right things?
  • What am I doing this week to help them grow?

Best team wins.
